Beast of the Week: Brady Toops

"Music was just a part of my soul. I couldn't help but get into it."

Brady Toops is a talented Nashville musician/singer-songerwriter with a unique sound that blends Americana, Folk and Soul. He's shared the stage with well-known groups, such as Switchfoot and NEEDTOBREATHE, as well as opened for artists like Ben Rector and Drew Holcomb. You may recognize him from season 11 of "The Bachelorette," which shortly after he took to the studio again to release his newest record, Tried & True. Check out his interview for more on his music and lifestyle.

Who or what influence you to get into music?

Music was just a part of my soul. I couldn't help but get into it.

If you could pick any artist or group to cut one of your songs, who would it be?

Boyz II Men - who wouldn't want to hear 3 or 4 part harmony set to some sweet 90s R&B? I think I'd lose my mind!

How would you describe your style? What's your go-to daily outfit?

My style would be a cross between Brooklyn & LA street style. I love me some flat bill hats and long tees with skinny jeans, but I also love a classic pair of black jeans and some solid boots with a jean jacket or an "All Saints" bomber jacket. When in doubt I go "black" for my daily outfit - black jeans, black Converse high tops, a tee, and a flat bill hat.

What's your favorite song you've ever written and why?

My current favorite is "Carolina." It's the song that came the catalyst for my new record Tried & True, which released this spring. Watch the video here.

What music is currently on your playlist?

Everything Kevin Garrett, some SG Lewis, John Mayer's new EPs, and Bon Iver's latest record.

Where's your favorite place you've ever traveled to?

This is a hard one. I'd say it's a toss up between NYC, Paris, Sydney, and Scotland. It definitely depends on what mood I'm in.

What do you think it takes to be a brilliant artist?

A lot of hard work and a considerable amount of luck. Who knows why some artists break and others don't. In the end I'll leave you with a favorite quote of mine from the sacred text, the Tao Te Ching, "Do your work, then step back. The only path to serenity."

Brady makes good, inspiring Music. His new Album Tried&True is really great. I can easily hear it, but it gives also a lot of blessings to my soul. What I like a lot are the songs “Walk in Love” and “Tried & True”. Thank you Brady for sharing your skills and soul with us.
